Abstract
- Provision of mother’s breast milk to infants within one hour of birth is referred to as early initiation of breast feeding and ensures that the infant receives the colostrum or first milk which is rich in productive factors.
- Colostrum (LIQUID GOLD) is usually golden yellow in colour. It deliver its nutrients(HIGH PROTEIN,LESS CARBOHYDRATES & FATS) in a very concentrated low volume form. It is has mild laxative effect encouraging the passing of the baby’s first stool called meconium. This clears excess bilirubin which is produced in large quantities at birth due to blood volume reduction, this helps in preventing jaundice in neonates
